The Sauna Corner® face-oil
A simple post-sauna tonic, easy to make, feels lovely on the skin, another great way to add value to your offering.
Ingredients:
Jojoba oil
Castor oil
Organic essential oils - clary sage, ylang-ylang, frankincense
Fill a small Amber Glass bottle just under half full with jojoba oil and the other half with castor oil.
To this add:
two drops of clary sage - antibacterial and anti-inflammatory
two drops of ylang-ylang - for a youthful, radiant complexion
two drops of frankinscense oil - anti-aging and reduces fine lines
The Sauna Corner® Salt Scrub
Here is the most simple salt scrub to offer as an exfoliator towards the end of a session, or to use to promote sweating and mineral absorption mid-session
Ingredients:
Natural Sea Salt (fine)
Organic honey - to make this vegan substitute for grapeseed oil
Organic essential oils of your choice
Dried herbs/flowers - if using outside the sauna
Begin with your salt in a large mixing bowl, add four to five drops of each of your essential oil - think combinations like lavender and eucalyptus, rosemary and orange, bergamot and thyme, geranium rose and patchouli.
You can also add dried herbs such a rosemary or rose petals - which looks lovely - but bare in mind this will create excess mess and stain sauna benches. Experience has shown that little bits of rosemary get everywhere between cracks and benches and what not, and rose petals will definitely stain sauna benches with pink tones! If you are using outdoors - go for it - it really looks nice with added herbs and flowers!
To your scented salt, add your emulsifier - if using honey, warm this by allowing the jar to sit in a pot of warm water (you can also substitute honey for grapeseed oil or even aloe vera gel) - start with a small amount, a couple of tablespoons and combine with the salt. Add a little more if the mixture seems like it needs a little more.
The desired result is something that has a bit of moisture and holds together ever so slightly - you do not want it to be sticky or gooey - nor do you want it to be just salt - you are looking for a touch of softness added by the honey or oil.
Store in a large mason jar, and serve in small coconut bowls or piled onto a large shell.
Sell these as added extras for £5-£6 or include in your sauna session - which allows for a higher ticket price - salt at the end of a session is always a good thing!!
The Sauna Corner® Honey face-mask
Another very simple offering - you can never go wrong with simplicity - this honey face mask is moisturising, fun and has a hint of exfoliant.
Ingredients:
Raw organic honey
Himalayan salt
Organic geranium rose essential oil
Begin by warming your honey by placing the jar in a pot of warm water.
Once runny enough decant desired amount into your storage vessel.
Add four to five drops of geranium oil which is balancing for the skin
Add a tablespoon of Himalayan salt and stir well.
Store and when you want to use - if it is cold and soild, place it in the sauna for five or in a pot of warm water.
To use - all you need is a teaspoon for each guest, it's often easy to spoon it into the palm of the hand - or serve in a small pot or shell.
Apply to face, liberally, however advise guests to avoid directly above the eyes as it may run down in them!
Slather all over, any residue on hands can be rubbed into skin elsewhere.
Guests may notice the skin just absorbs this liquid - but of course then can have a quick rinse in the shower or sea when they step out!
Black Clay face and body mask
Again - very simple - there is a theme here!
Ingredients
Bentonite clay
Rose water
Place one or two tablespoons of the clay powder into a small bowl, add a very small amount of rose water and mix. Add more water it needed to reach consistency. You are looking for something with body that can easily be applied to the skin. It is alwasy better to start with minimal liquid and add more rather than it being very runny and having to add more clay powder which may result in waste.
Serve as desired and instruct guests to apply to face, chest, back etc -
Bentonite clay is made from volcanic ash and is known for it detoxification properties, deep cleaning pores and drawing out excess oil.
The Sauna Corner® Hibiscus Kool-aid
A tangy yet refreshing 'mocktail' perfect for adding value to your sessions - take it even further by adding botanicals, nootropics or mood-boosting herbs!
Ingredients:
Dried Hibiscus flowers
Agavé syrup
Lime x 2
Fresh mint
Soda water
Begin by making your hibiscus syrup - do this by adding dried hibiscus flowers to a pan of water, bring to the boil, and then let it simmer, stirring occasionally. You will notice the flowers start to lose their colour and the liquid will become more pungent. At this point it is sour and tangy!
Once you have steeped the mixture for around 45-60mins you can remove it from the hob, drain and add you agavé syrup to sweeten - here use your instinct, taste, if it's still really tangy ass a bit more. You will add mint and lime on serving. For now leave the mixture to cool.
To serve - fill a large mason jar with a third or so of your hibiscus 'cordial', top up with two parts soda water. Quarter your limes, squeeze some juice into the concoction, and pop in your lime chunks too. Add a few sprigs of mint, and top up with loads of ice.
Present this as 'kool-aid' a 'mocktail' or your unique secret sauna drink! It always goes down a storm!
