Portasauna - the future of home sauna?

If you don't know about Portsauna then it’s time to get to know! Awarded Best Outdoor Wellness Product of the Year 2025 (UK Pool & Spa Awards), this portable sauna tent is lighting a fire, perhaps quite literally, across the UK wellness scene! With contrast bathing set to become THE next biggest wellness trend, a pop-up wood-fired sauna you can take anyway surely is a game changer! In fact, it’s already pretty embedded into the grassroots sauna movement sweeping the UK, a gift for sauna enthusiasts, a God-send for budding sauna masters and those eager to set up their own mobile sauna business. 

There are quite a few of these ‘sauna-tents’ popping up - yes they pop-up in minutes - but here we mean many brands jumping on the band-wagon, but it is Portasauna who are the real trailBLAZERS of this movement - ooh the puns are coming thick and fast! The brand with the the most clever and catchy name, a portmanteau of portable-sauna, Porta-Sauna, these guys were here first! And you know you are on to a good thing when imitation products quickly flood the market! Here at The Sauna Corner we are passionate about supporting the pioneers, the movement-makers, the instigators and inspirators, so it really should be no surprise that we are firmly flying the Portasauna flag! But enough with passion and rhetoric - lets get into why Portasauna sauna tents are a smash-hit and why you need one in your wellness toolbox!

First and foremost - the simple ease of use and accessibility - you do not need an engineering degree here, you do not need to know much about saunas, you don't even need another person, it’s a one-(wo)man job! The tent structure itself is a simple framework, no building or meccano vibes here, a quick pull here and a grab of that little tag there, and a little push here and it’s up, built in doors and windows wrap around the structure - all you have to decide is which way you wanna face to get the best views. Even more impressive, the ‘flat-pack’ wood fired stove! Who even dreamt up such a thing?! No screws, no tools, just simple slotting together, same goes for the ‘rock-box’, and then slipping together the flue and popping that in place though the cleverly constructed and reinforced hole in the roof for this. It’s done. 

So now a little more on that cheeky little stove and its capacious rock-box! Just as it sounds, the rock-box is where we place all the sauna rocks - and the Portasauna package comes with a big box full of excellent quality stones too. I was surprised by quite how many rocks could be contained here - because, as you may know, plenty of rocks equals plenty thermal mass and lovely, soft löyly, that's the Finnish word for the steam by the way. It’s known as the vitality, the life-force of sauna, and it’s what makes Finnish-style sauna in a league of its own compared to ‘gym sauna’ with no steam. A sauna without löyly is a dead space, no elemental connection, no real sauna-therapy - any real sauna enthusiasts knows and understands this which is another huge winning factor for Portasauna and what makes it that authentic  sauna experience. The topic of löyly is a whole blog post in itself, let’s stay on track now!! 

What was most surprising though, was just how quick the space inside the sauna heated up, and this is a testament to this powerful little stove, and the top quality Oxford materials that serves as great insulation for that heat. I was blown away by how hot it was inside the tent after just TEN minutes!! This is largely due to the radiant heat that this badass stove is kicking out. Let’s not forget there is a fire inside this metal box, the whole unit becomes really hot very (very) quickly, which naturally heats the surrounding space, in this case our four-person sauna area. With temps reaching 80degree in such a short time , one can light the fire, take the lid off the plunge pool, grab your favourite refreshments and it’s pretty much ready to jump even. In ten minutes! Remarkable. I was sitting on the bench, drenched in sweat immediately. Give it another ten minutes and the rocks were hot enough to start pouring water and ‘raising the löyly’ as we say and we’re soon reaching temps of 95+! Any good (informed) sauna session starts like this anyway, starting slowly, no steam immediately, letting the body acclimatise to the heat, and then beginning to build and intensify the heat experience with soothing and therapeutic steam (again another blog-post topic there too). The ability to do this, in my back garden, with such swiftness, astonishing! 

So let’s wrap this up, before we write a dissertation on why you need a Portasauna in your life. A sauna-tent, which is a no-brainer to set up, can be erected pretty much anywhere, heats up so fast with minimal efforts (pretty much no fire-attending to be done here really), what’s not to love?! Your own toasty space, which holds the heat, creating a peaceful, personal sanctuary, right there in your back garden, where do I sign? An affordable and accessible mobile sauna which allows you to sauna 4-5 times a week, at ease, at convenience, when you wake up in the morning, before you retire to bed at night, the most dreamy way to supercharge your self-care routines? Take my money!!! 

And this is just in the context of one having one’s own little authentic wood-fire sauna in your garden, or on your local beach, or in the forest, whatever is on your door-step really!
